This lesson focuses on underachieving and twice exceptional gifted students. For this, you will explore the specific feelings and behaviour of this group, their needs at school as well as at home, and the educational adjustments required of educators in order to support these gifted students to develop well.
Following Vygotsky (1978) some educators believe that the role of education is to give children experiences that are within their zones of proximal development, thereby encouraging and advancing their individual learning, such as skills and strategies.
In lesson 1 we challenge educators to explore their own zone of proximal development. In lesson 2 educators have the chance to learn more about and check their knowledge of the feelings and behaviour of Twice Exceptional students, and their educational needs.
And in lesson 3 – in which educators learn more about underachievement – they also can test themselves on their knowledge about underachievement.
