Welcome to the STEAM Stars Open Campus!

This Open CAMPUS site contains training materials and assessment tools for use by teachers, parents, and others who work with gifted children, or who are interested in learning more about identifying and supporting those who are gifted. The information on this CAMPUS tells you about the STEAM Stars training courses and what is included in this website. If you have any additional questions please use the contact email below.

What is STEAM Stars?

STEAM Stars is a European project funded with support from the European Commission, through the ERASMUS+ programme, which provides open source, freely available training to educators of gifted children. The learning materials have been designed to assist educators, parents, and other relevant individuals in recognising giftedness and to help them to find the best ways to support gifted children both in and out of the classroom.

What is the Open CAMPUS?

The Open CAMPUS site is the location for all of the STEAM Stars training materials. It hosts information on the European Framework of Competences in teaching STEAM for gifted students, online training materials based on the Framework of Competences, and an online tool for evaluating training needs.

What is on the Open CAMPUS?

This site includes:

  • Online Instructional Guide on Digital Competencies for Virtual Learning – aimed at improving digital skills and facilitating the interaction with virtual learning environments.
  • STEAM Stars Training Modules – a document outlining the content of the STEAM Stars MOOCs (see below) and providing pedagogical tools for teachers, trainers, and non-formal or informal educators of gifted children.
  • MOOCs – a set of learning materials designed to assist teachers and non-formal or informal educators in identifying and supporting gifted children.
  • Assessment Tool – an online evaluation tool which can be used to identify training requirements.

What is a MOOC?

MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course. MOOCs provide online learning which is available without charge and can be accessed by a large number of people at once.

Who is it for?

The STEAM Stars learning materials are designed for anyone who supports young people who are gifted, or who may be gifted. This includes teachers, informal and non-formal educators, charity workers, sports coaches, group leaders, and parents.

Why should I do the training?

Our training materials provide a range of information on identifying and supporting gifted children both in and out of the classroom. The training modules include activities that can be tested and adapted within the classroom, and the MOOCs are designed to improve knowledge and understanding of the different ways that gifted children behave and learn, and how best to engage them in a learning environment.

Why should I do the assessment?

The assessment tool allows you to evaluate your current level of knowledge about teaching STEAM to gifted students, and will recommend courses within the MOOCs which will help to meet any training needs which are identified. The assessment tool also contains a development plan which provides a pathway to becoming a STEAM Stars ambassador for STEAM and gifted education.
